Brazil's MEI final deadline is May 31 — the two documents still due

With three weeks left, the annual Dasn-Simei filing and any required personal income tax return need to be ready. Anyone who hasn't confirmed whether the second is mandatory risks an avoidable fine.

MEI final deadline is May 31

What needs to be ready by the 31st

The Dasn-Simei (Brazil's annual declaration for individual microentrepreneurs) has a final deadline of May 31, 2026, covering the period from January 1 through that date. Anyone whose taxable personal income exceeded R$35,584 in 2025 also needs to file a personal income tax return within the same deadline.

With three weeks left before the close, this is the final check: are both documents ready, or is one of them still waiting on information you need to ask your accountant for?

Why leaving it to the last week costs more than it looks

Late filing of the personal income tax return carries a minimum fine of R$165.74, capped at 20% of the tax owed — an amount that grows proportionally with declared income. The Dasn-Simei also has a late-filing penalty. Neither fine is high enough to be "worth the risk," but both are entirely avoidable with simple organization.

The last-three-weeks checklist

Three things close out the process: confirm with your accountant whether the personal income tax return is mandatory for your case — if you still don't have that answer, that's priority number one. Then gather any remaining documents (bank statements, proof of other income, investment income reports) before the last week of May. And schedule submission of both filings with a few days of buffer before the final deadline, avoiding an overloaded system on the last day.
