Pix gets new features in July — what changes for sellers
Brazil's central bank confirmed Pix Automático will extend to salary accounts starting in July. That opens up recurring billing that until now only worked with checking accounts.

What Brazil's central bank confirmed
On May 20, 2026, Brazil's central bank announced a new phase of improvements to Pix, the country's instant payment system, with implementation planned for July. The main confirmed change is extending Pix Automático (recurring auto-debit) to salary accounts — until now, only checking and payment accounts could use this type of recurring billing. Two other fronts remain under analysis, with no fixed date: hybrid billing (combining a traditional bank slip with a Pix QR code on the same document) and improvements to the dispute button in MED, the mechanism handling disputes and fraud.
Worth separating what's confirmed from what's still under discussion — the salary-account expansion has an announced July rollout, the rest doesn't have a date yet.
Why this matters if you sell subscriptions or recurring services
Pix Automático already exists today for recurring debits — gym memberships, service subscriptions, subscription club plans. The limitation until now was that much of the salaried population holds salary accounts, not checking accounts, and was left out of this kind of automatic billing. With the expansion, that audience will be able to authorize recurring Pix charges too.
For a small business selling subscriptions, courses, monthly services, or any recurring charge, this widens the pool of customers who can pay automatically, without needing to remember every month — which usually reduces missed payments due to forgetfulness.
What to check before July
Three things help you take advantage of the change: confirm with your bank or the fintech processing your Pix whether their system will already support billing salary accounts once the change goes live. Then, if you sell something recurring, evaluate whether it's worth offering Pix Automático as a payment option alongside recurring credit card billing. And keep an eye on hybrid billing — still no date, but it could change how you issue bank slips if it lands.
